The Off Grid Life

the off-grid life.

untied from the shackles of strife,

2017, the modern existence,

getting on the property ladder, how does anyone have a chance?
20, 25 or 30, forced to work to pay every bill,

going to work all hours, struggling to find a way, a life against our will,

needing the money from any form of work, mostly unprogressive, unhappy
life passing by, frustrating, anger, decreasing self-worth, causing individuals to be snappy

unfulfilled, potentials are not met, working a job all day, unable to progress,

money is the key factor, for bills to be met, let me digress.

often they still aren't causing pain and suffering, stress and depression,

homelessness is rife through the country, a feeling of regression,

a feeling of being stuck, how to retrain and improve your careers?
speak to friends or family and the same conversation, doubts, and fears
if only another option was available,

one that was accepted and not just for the vulnerable,

the homeless, the people with nothing,

but how is this existence different? it is truly crushing,

once you can see that your life is consumed with working for money,

the soul has passed, your energy too, it can get so hard it's not even funny,

but who understands? in the face of consumerism, higher purchase, loans, and debt,

who is living a life, truly satisfied, and their dreams are met?

Not all people living off-grid are rich in cash!
but they aim for other needs; security in food & energy, it's worth a bash,

a growing transition for many people too,

it's not just for the hippies, the spiritual, it's for people like me and you,

think about it for a moment or two...

who would you be without your car, house and your possessions?
is that person you portray the real you? or do you blend in so people don't ask questions?
are you honest with your family and friends?

or do you sit behind a desk wishing it would end?
there is a wealth of knowledge of old traditions,

from a time when they lived without these conditions,

the conditions of social media, advertising, marketing ads or vlogs

when screen time didn't consume every waking hour, and children were fascinated with tadpoles transforming into frogs.

hours spent outside, climbing trees, playing at the park,

not allowed home unless it was tea time or had gotten dark.

a shift is happening, ecotherapy, wild schooling, bushcraft, and hikes,

forest schooling, homeschooling, people walking and out on their bikes,

scientists are noticing the effects on children's behaviors, reduced health issues,

ADHD,  also a boost in self-awareness, positivity, confidence and mental health issues

is it easier to sit a child down to hours in front of the tv, or ipad?

than it is to spend a few hours playing down the park with dad?

or baking a cake with mum, the importance of these skills are being misplaced,

in this consumerism world, with employees a number, in a life so fast-paced.

Off-grid living, the communities hidden away,

all they want is a parcel of land to look after their needs, but hey,

that's not possible, 'cause where will the local council get their tax,

with the community, living off the land, growing food and chopping wood with an axe,

the need and usage of government-owned services would become minute,

living simply and within your skills of the land, renewables used, an abundance of fruit,

food preserved in many forms, jams and chutneys, frozen meat,

enough food to last year-round to survive through winter, or in the heat,

the food produced off the land, tending the garden, and grown for nutrition,

the most important for life and health also said to aid in remission.

off grid homesteaders, don't need to take the flack,

with health as the focus, working outdoors to provide, lowering the need for prozac,
comments from shallow minded people need not be said,

the power of community, working together, I want to spread,

to include children in the transition, of conserving nature and our wildlife,

the tranquil setting amongst the seasons, watching the stars, that's my type of nightlife.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is my first time sharing my poetry, (after a few friends encouraged me that I should) please be kind and send your thoughts.

Also all words are opinions of myself in the modern world that we live in.

This is not meant to cause offense, harm, upset to anyone, and if it does please understand that is not my intention.

Many thanks,

Set Them Free

Caught a snowflake in a glass jar

Tried to save it all alone

From its life I took it so far

Did the same with flesh and bone

Took an Orca from its family

Put it in a sideshow hall

Hoops and balls instead of living free

At night you hear its mournful call

A life of beauty treated badly

Endless circles day and night

And then when it reacts so madly

Our families run in fear and fright

We should learn now from our children

They see the pain in Orca’s eyes

"They should all be free now Daddy"

"I don’t want to see them die"

Their future lies with you and me

It won’t hurt to let them go

Bars and cages should not ever be

We’ve learnt now all we need to know

Put the mammals back into the sea

We don’t need to see the show

All they need in life is to be free

A peaceful world where they can grow

Our Planet Weeps

I look around the world today

I look at where I choose to stay

I see the beauty being erased

By destruction and disgrace

The machinations of progress

Put on the planet great distress

The comfort in I want to live

Our paradise can no longer give

Where are we going, what is the meaning of our life?

What are we doing, why do we change what we don’t like?

Where is the plan here, I haven’t seen a single page?

Where are we going, it’s time to look at what we’ve made?

We’ve raped the seas, killed the trees, eaten all the life

We’ve filled the air, without a care, slept soundly every night

Poisoned the ground, cut it down, shaped it to our will

Left for the rest, a ruined mess, a paradise that kills

We’ve cracked the crust, turned to dust, the very soil we need

Cut out the heart, just to start, a motor we don’t need

Done everything, our mind conceived, at any time and place

Abused the trust, possession lust, what hopes left for our race

Jobs are not, the must have got, purpose of our being

And money won’t, feed the world, when soil can’t sprout a seed

Change it now, anyhow, we’ll feel the change that comes

Join with me, we all can be, the earth and us as one

When are you starting, go from right now do it today?

What are you thinking, project new life and not decay?

What are you doing, only you can change your life?

Where are we going?

Our planets run right out of time

Nature's Cry

Ugonna Wachuku

Weep with me because our enchanting oceans

and seas are polluted. Weep with me because

there is nuclear danger dumped in the icy
north. Let us weep because climate change

is upon our enchanting earthly home.

Weep with me because fishes are
dying. Dolphins are singing no
more. Weep with me because oil
is choking earth's oceans to
death.

Weep with me because our trees
are dying. Human hands defile
them. Weep with me because our
farmlands can no longer be
pregnant with seeds: Famine,
barenness and starvation
menacingly storm through
the earth in broad day
light!

Weep with me because I went to the
Niger Delta and the earth was dead.
Ogoniland has been stripped of her
fruitful environment and natural
wealth. Weep with me because I

wentto Odi and Odi village was

dead.

Deeply weep with me because I went
to France and saw the sea spitting
oil. Weep with me because oil tankers
now break into two at sea. And now,
this Prestige, off the Spanish coast
has fatally wounded earth's oceans
with oil spills and leaks once more:

I am so deeply hurt, and keep asking:
Why wasn't that oil pumped off the
Prestige into a healthy tanker all
those days it sat there waiting to
break and sink??????????
???????????????
???????????????
??????????????:

Countries talk dumb and hopelessly
dumb letting their numbness to truth
and urgent reality reveal heaven's
weeping heart for dying humanity
and our bleeding earthly home.
And now Spanish government
apology. What use is this
apology now? What use???:

And the USA Gulf of Mexico

one with BP: and more:

Weep with me because I am dead.
Weep with me because you are dead.
Weep with me because our beautiful,
chanting birds are dying. Weep with
me because our bountifully and
wonderfully created earth is
singing a glarring dirge.

Weep with me because Igboland

is weeping for her own and
all humankind. The land
of the free and the home
of the brave is also
weeping. All earth is
weeping indeed.

Weep with me because I am Mother
Nature and I am weeping for earth
and every uncaring human being.
My brilliant blue earth is fast
dying. Dolphins are singing no
more. I am so scared. So, weep
with me. Let us meet at Mt.
Olives. Let us plant the earth
anew under heaven's loving eyes
of compassion.

Come, humanity, let us save
our dying earth this new day.
Yet weep with me because I am
Mother Nature - I am heaven's
soul - and I am weeping for
earth and all humanity! I am

weeping for our dying oceans!

I am nature. And I am crying!

Our climate is changing and

global warming is threatening

us.

I am nature!

I am earth!

And

I'm weeping!

Banks of the Amazon

Ugonna Wachuku

On sustainability, water, agriculture, climate action,

healthy food systems, renewal of earth's environment,

corporate social responsibility, renewables, energy efficiency,

responsible global trade and abiding nature conservation

for beloved humankind's survival:

Life will continue her journey
on the dream's path. She will
take along every purity from
the earth. Every root shall be
moved for life through nature.

The dream has come to the land.
You shall ever know the love
from my soul to help humankind

take sustainable action on this

threatening climate change,

globally.

From bountiful banks of the
Amazon, I shall rise for the
voyage. I shall take with me
fresh fishes for new
beginnings. Trees of the
jungle will bow in
admiration and care

for earth's soil and

blood humankind.

The dream shall kiss this
river in a subtle show of
universal love. On the face
of the Parana, the dream shall
glitter to let everyone know
the love that we share.

This spirit of the Amazon shall
take me to the breath-taking
height of precious Pico da
Bandeira. Then, let me know
what you think of the dream's
soul for earth's renewal, forever.

Cherish a whole life of oneness
across the land. Let love light
the dream's torch in the morning
of darkness and uncertainty from

this climate change on humankind's

enchanting earth home.

Let every eye see its the dream's

flame in the heart of Brasillia and

across the world. From the land's

depth, let Rio de Janeiro beat

drums for a Samba of peace and

love to let humankind conquer

this climate change, threatening.

Let time and seas of life kiss
the love of my being on the coast
of Sao Paulo. Let your soul
experience the dream's lovely joy
on the yearning lands of Salvador.

Let love and hope
dine with us in
Thecife for

humankind's

earth

Nobody Loves Me

Ugonna Wachuku

I live on a misty mountain top
in the heart of Uturu. On this
mountain, I walk with eagles.
My house is built of natural
stone. Streams water my
surroundings with refreshing,
live-giving scent from nature.

I am in tune with nature.
I am a child of nature.
Nature knows me; and I know
nature within the depths of
my being.

My hope in life does not
wane because daily, I breath
healing freshness from nature
and my mountain top environment.

I drink from springs on the
mountain. Each night, when I
bend down to drink, moonbeams
caress my longing back.

Nobody knows me; not even
my name; not even where
I come from. Could I have
been forgotten in the still
smallness of life? Could I
have lost that unchanging
love promised?

Each dusk, I stare down the
valley wondering if life has
anyone like me down there.
I wonder at my home and at
nature in all of its beauty.
I wonder at my beginning.

I rest with the hope of
finding a companion. But
nobody comes. Nobody calls.
Nothing leaves. Nothing comes.
Yet, I stay on this mountain top.

Suddenly, I wake up sweating like
a christmas goat: I have been
dreaming. Then, I realize that it's
real. My heartbeat panders to the
rhythm of a bird's voice. I listen
carefully. This reality comes into
me. I look out of my stone house
window:

The bird's green trees and lush
landscapes have been burnt by
fires of human strife and loveless
destruction across the valley below.
Tear drops fill my sunken eyes.

"Nobody loves me, nobody loves me;
including you" the bird sings on
my mountain spring while I watch
from my weary window on the
mountain top. The bird's tears
mingle with my natural spring
on the mountain.

Goodnight To The Mountain

Ugonna Wachuku

Earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This climate change is terribly threatening!

This global warming strikes at the soul of

our earthly existence. We must act now,

on this truly trying journey called life!

All enchanting earthly education is needed.

There is a smiling storm gathering in the east.
There is a weeping sea across the desert.
Rising waves beat against the beach.
Whispering winds call us to new beginning.
But we are still dancing. We are still dancing
to that music of freedom. We are still dreaming
when we should have woken up to protect and
preserve earth's dying environment!

There is a smiling storm gathering in the west.
There is an unknown sun setting tonight.
Then, let us wake up and build our battered planet.
Let us rise with the sun and say good-bye to hopeless
dreams of the night. Let us follow the whispering
wind's voice and find the beauty of this earth.
Let us watch the fig tree shed its leaves and know
that the season is near.

Remember, there is a smiling storm gathering in the
hidden handsomeness of this global warming. There is
a smiling storm gathering across those clouds of blue
and grey sitting in the north and south. So, when owls
hoot no more; when streams and waterfalls weep; when
you kiss me good-bye, remember to ask:
what is so good in saying goodbye?

There is a smiling storm warming itself up to kiss.
New flowers are sprouting. Gardens are blooming. So,
remember, when the sun says goodnight to the mountain,
darkness will light up the earth. Darkness will make us
see why we must keep this earth alive in love; with
tolerance and brotherhood!

When the sun says goodnight to the mountain, please,
my love, do not kiss me goodnight. Do not let me see
the fuming face of this smiling storm because our love
will outlive every monument of time. We will soar with
the eagles to new horizons of hope and oneness when the
sun says goodnight to the mountain!

Together, as one people, come, humanity, now is the
time to protect and preserve our beautiful, dying
environment. Now is the time to fight this deadly

climate change and global warming!

This climate change is terribly threatening!

Earth is our enchanting home! Let's take preservatory care of our earthly home! That deeply moving song titled "Rain, Rain, Beautiful Rain" by South Africa's soulfully moving isicathamiya {a cappella} group: Ladysmith Black Mambazo - inspired me to write this soulful Goodnight to the Mountain to educate humankind on the urgent need to reverse climate change and global warming, anyway we can!
