Carousel Maze

Broken hearts,
The empty feeling of loss,
Its yearning,
Feeling abandoned,
And learning about loving,
And it's cost,
It comes in many ways,
Sometimes even death,
Broken friendships,
Disagreements, resentments,
Anger over a bruised ego,
Signals crisscrossed,
Abuses, and envy,
Arrogance and shame,
Riding this wild and vicious
Merry-go-round of blame,
Loved ones take sides,
Like a sing-a-long
To a skipping vinyl record
On an old broken down phonograph,
Dissonant and harsh.

We try to get back
What we feel has been taken,
And get rid of the feeling
Of being forsaken,
Like when waking from a dream,
In horrid surprise,
We are sure it's not real,
And that it must be a guise,
Our ego is bruised,
We're confused,
We battle with hate and revenge,
Only to find many times in the end
It's ourselves we despise.

I've ended my share,
Without a care,
Thinking it fair game,
Because people had done it to me, just the same,
Like  circus mimes, we are,
Going through the motions
Of the drama it leaves behind,
In many ways, so unkind,
Always arriving at the same
Ticket booth for one more time
Until we question our own motives,
And finally decide,

...that life is too short to keep riding the same ride.

Starry Eyes

I'm sorry the world taught you that love is unkind,
As a child it's taught many the same,
The notions and potions we think can buy love,
Oh dear child, believe me...there is no one to blame.

See,what all your parents keep preaching,
Isn't 'cause they are old and don't care,
They keep telling you it's not what your thinking,
Because, see, they've already been there!

A card on your birthday, a diamond necklace,
There's big cash for big businesses in what you allow to impress,
Love hasn't a thing to do with all of those,
It's your hormones that tell you such lies as you grow.

The feelings are strong and especially at first,
Be aware, don't despair, it's just teenage angst that will burst,
The world isn't ending, this life will go on,
Just remember to deal with your feelings head-on.

The heart can control, and this isn't bad,
But sometimes growing older can really make you sad,
So as long as you learn to take responsibility
For your feelings, all will be just fine....believe me!!

You'll know when love hits you, because you seek no return,
It's mere presence will shower the gifts you know you deserve,
It will water your graciousness, caudle your talent
In ways that enhance your inner beauty to be balanced.

I don't give advice because I'm no different than you,
But if I could, I would say to just "Fall in love with you",
After all, you must have something to give it away,
Love to loving all the world first, and love will be with you to stay.

It may take some time, but all the best in life does,
Be patient, be wise, be YOU...because YOU are LOVE.

Amidst the fertile loam of teenage angst, the battling suffragist,
Passion rages, tears cried in vain,

And budding futures bright, begin to fill the pages,
But feelings never felt in wholeness, become habit to the thorn,
A tender heart beguiled and blamed, brings bitterness and scorn.

They wander down the road where other travelers pass them by,
Without a word, no stories heard, of when or where, or why,
The fragments of what could have been are hardly ever seen,
Tied in knots, the path is charted, the soul in silence keens.

The years they pass with savage blunder, utter wrecklessness,
With hollow heart and acrid thoughts ensued, no niche to rest,
A pocket full of wonder that cannot afford to dream,
A misdirected vessel cursed with the odds it will careen.

But if by chance a passer-by is sensitive to light,
The splintered pieces of a soul like this could shine, despite,
One second of compassion can determine years to come,
One smile can start a caring flame,

Reviving some old pleasantries and bringing back

A blithesome nature to a life derailed by rejection.

Practice kindness all your life, don't underestimate,
Be not stingy with your heart, or you'll reap second rate,
You'll reap what you sow and get back as you give,
And just how much means little when you've inspired a life to live.

A poem about some of what authentic kindness and compassion can do.

beyond the butterfly

Butterfly's growing,
What else is there to become?
Go beyond yourself.
