Enjoyed: I can easily relate to the excellent display of imagery and conveyance of revealing nuances that are imbedded in the precise and skillful sublimity of this poem.
Another majorly beautiful: Another majorly beautiful poem . . . but that phrase, "the virginal forest / between us" is, for being only five words, one of the finest phrases I have ever read in poetry, and I have been reading poetry since Spring, 1973, so I have some crediility in my response to excellent lines. Wow!
Amusing : ): You might see some 'whippersnappers' there, too ; ) My niece is getting really into Ms. Pac-man. I guess it's becoming a bit of a thing, again. A sign, perhaps, that within advanced technology itself, there is a subset of us that long for simpler times.
Betrayals and gaslighting: Betrayals and gaslighting rely on our fuel to keep the fire going. Letting go, though sometimes feeling impossibly difficult, is the only way to quell the destructive flame.
This was beautifully painful. An awakening to what suffering means and where suffering can still lead.
"What lies beyond the: "What lies beyond the blinds?"
You know exactly how to conjure a mood, seize the reader's attention and not let go. I love your sardonic attitude on meeting the expectations of a crass society to be a "standing man" and your unflinching, achingly honest description of "the slow death".
"I feel myself diminishing"
So much in that line. How well I know that place.
Another powerful exhibit of your rare talent.
Very evocative of a time and: Very evocative of a time and place, this poem had the power to take my breath away. The way you brought the child into sharp focus, then panned away to show the wider toll on human life was devastating, and it truly put a face on the cold-war struggle for freedom. Amazing work!
You lit more than a few: You lit more than a few wildfires in this old mind. As you so skillfully took inventory of your poetic journey, I looked back over the many years you've brought friendship, positive energy, fresh perspective, humor and true art to this site, and I can't imagine PostPoems without you. Too many posts? Never! I congratulate you in advance for your 7,000th post.
When the financial stakes are: When the financial stakes are high enough, capitalist systems will look the other way no matter how egregious an act of cruelty or neglect is (This includes abuse of humans as well). It's also telling that factory farms and slaughter houses do not allow people to take photos or videos of their facilities.
Fortunately, word is getting out about the atrocities committed behind closed doors. Physicist Brian Green became a vegan after visiting a factory farm and witnessing the horror.
Thank you for continuing to raise awareness of the appalling mistreatment of precious sentient beings.
With emotionally-charged: With emotionally-charged metaphors and a gripping, tumbling style to demonstrate those emotions, you accurately described that devastating experience of a few words changing everything. I was with you through every torrential illustration of the pain, betrayal and regret associated with the experience as I marveled at your deft manipulation of words to take me down that lonely river with a "Lightning rod for a mast".
A stunner.
Presenting the big picture in: Presenting the big picture in this brilliantly succinct manner makes me pause and think. Our epic existence is far more significant and wondrous than we can imagine in our physical state. Glad we met this time around!
