When the financial stakes are
When the financial stakes are high enough, capitalist systems will look the other way no matter how egregious an act of cruelty or neglect is (This includes abuse of humans as well). It's also telling that factory farms and slaughter houses do not allow people to take photos or videos of their facilities.
Fortunately, word is getting out about the atrocities committed behind closed doors. Physicist Brian Green became a vegan after visiting a factory farm and witnessing the horror.
