cynosure commented on: Think Viral, Not Antimicrobial by cynosure 18 weeks 3 days ago
Antimicrobial Vs Antibiotic : I apologise; I just realised I made a very silly error that I am incredibly embarrassed about. Allow me to clarify.    TL;DR: In short, "antimicrobial" means to kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa), whereas "antibiotic" specifically refers to substances derived from microorganisms that kill or inhibit other microorganisms.     For a slightly deeper understanding:  Antimicrobial: A substance that acts against any microbial organism, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa. Antibacterial: A substance that specifically acts against bacteria. Antibiotic: A substance derived from a microorganism that kills or inhibits the growth of another microorganism. This term typically excludes synthetic (e.g., quinolones and sulphonamides) or semisynthetic (e.g., methicillin) drugs, as well as those derived from plants.

Thank you for that comment. : Thank you for that comment.  And yes, she was an amazing person.  I was adopted as an infant, but she and my grandfather welcomed me into the family without hesitation.  Plus I was the youngest of their four grandchildren, which did give me an advantage. In the original Japanese version of the film, Godzilla is as much a victim as those who have died in its pathway, victimized by the atomic bombs dropped on Japan in 1945, and then by subsequent nuclear testing.  The black and white film does not show the detail of Godzilla's hide, which was meant to be full of open sores (which would have been painful in the salt water of the Sea of Japan).  I did not, then, know what a metaphor was, but I was certainly able to identify with Godzilla, after some years of being bullied in school. Thanks again for the comment.

Why: Why is it so hard to tell someone we are hurting. Worse yet to not see someone is hurting. Your grandmother must have been amazing. Thatnk you for the share.

Kind words, soothing my racing mind. : I apologise for taking so long to respond. Your kindness, understanding and empathy - something I am not used to receiving, were a lot to take in and process.    It feels incorrect to thank you for your intimate knowledge of the subject matter and my piece's effect on you. Perhaps it is true that the anguish and sadness shared are also halved. I wrote in some prose recently how much I believe (and it is scientifically backed) that emotions are intrinsically tied to and essential to our own morality—as they are indeed in other primates and more animals than we know.   I will thank you for taking the time to read and comment. It is something that I am trying to improve in myself.

My heart ached all the way: My heart ached all the way through this masterfully crafted account of one of my own worst nightmares. At some point many of us have to make these wrenching decisions. With tenderness, palpable agony and heart-melting images, I was taken back to my own babies' end-of-life ordeals when mercy was a "sharpened blade".   I've read many poems about pet deaths, but none that have focused so sharply on the excruciating dilemma of when to let go and few have had the shattering power and the devastating realism you wield with your exceptional talent. The eloquence is almost too beautiful to bear as it delivers a cyclone of unsparing pain.   An excellent, excellent portrayal of our human journey that is, for many of us, tethered tightly to our nonhuman friends. I want to cry and applaud at the same time.   Well done, fine Poet!

I am filled with gratitude: I am filled with gratitude and amazement by your stunning analysis that hit the mark with both precision and eloquence. That was exactly the effect I intended to evoke, and your vibrant insights confirmed it as only a true Poet can do. And you are a truly gifted Poet!   My regret is that I've been so busy lately that I haven't been able to give your posts the attention they so greatly deserve, but I hope to remedy that soon.   Thank you immensely for taking the time to read (I mean, really read) and leave such resplendent footprints.

The lasr fived lines of the: The lasr five lines of the poem are, in my opinion, the most important and also the poem's center of gravity, because they disclose  the reader to whom the poem's questions are addressed.  The Poet has adopted a kind of Socearic method in posing questions to the reader; or, you could also called it that catechetical method that the Early Christians used when preparing converts for full initiation into the Chyrch.      And this is appropriate because this poem, like her other poems, constitute an extended initiation into an awareness of the Cosmos.  When you read one of Patricia's poems, you are actually reading the content or subject matter of all of them.  In this aspect, she resembles Wallace Stevens, whose body of work was based on certain premises that alwaus kept the individual poems in line with his subject matter,  Patricia's style operates exactly like this.  And to paraphrase one of Stevens' recent critics---whose name I cannot recall just now--her Poetry demonstrates an astonishing amount of internal control and modulation.  Patricia's poems present the Cosmos itself, so internal control and modulation are absolutely necessary.  I believe this kind of approach to poetry began with Vergil---and Patricia is an inheritor of that vocation---to explain the Cosmos to itself.

cynosure commented on: What is Justice? by satishverma 19 weeks 4 days ago
Frans would approve. : The emotional tone of this poem feels both contemplative, introspective and perhaps even slightly eerie. The mention of racism in animals and the departure from "skin law" suggests a deep examination of societal issues and norms. Indeed, it feels inspired by the late great Frans de Waals himself (I recently wrote a short blog with this in mind on another site). The phrase "The conscience pricks unsaid", hinting at unease or guilt surrounding unspoken thoughts or actions, is refreshingly bold in its honesty.  I also enjoyed the description of a "travesty of the moon-naked", which paints a vivid and somewhat unsettling image, evoking a sense of vulnerability. The line "The sleep gropes for the light" conveys a sense of searching or longing for something elusive was masterful.  The mention of reading the last command of the brightest star adds a mysterious and possibly foreboding element to the poem. The final lines about the need to sever one's head for a new image underscores the gravity of significant change/sacrifice required to renew or transform oneself completely.
