A Man's Valentine's Plans

Author's Notes/Comments:

Valentine's Day was coming up and I thought "What kind of poem can I pay tribute for the occassion?" I thought instead of the classic going out with someone special and making it romantic with a lot of thoughtful gifts, how about just getting some woman you can show off to make it look like there was someone special with you for that day? The shallow and plastic kind of date. I don't know if this is a manly kind of idea or just my own. Maybe it's this way of thinking that doesn't get me many Valentines Dates :o)

The Same

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is my favorite inspired poem. I was walking by Makati Medical Center and I looked at the windows on the upper floors and thought, "At this moment there are babies being born on this same day in the same hospital, what if they were neighbors too, what would their lives be like?" And I wrote the premise down and organized the ideas more during free time in the day and by night time I wrote it all out during some TV Beauty Contest. Most people think of hospitals as shelter for the sick and suffering and stool samples, who would've thought it would inspire a poem? :o)

The Load's Prayer

Author's Notes/Comments:

The title came to me first. I thought and thought about what I could make of it for days. Eventually I forgot about it. Then one day the first stanza came to me and then the rest flowed out of me in a steady gush and at the end, relief. Now I know what it's like to have a period :o)

Smelly Socks

Author's Notes/Comments:

Again, I was in Starbucks, this time at Immigration in Manila waiting for my travelling papers, and I actually came up with 5 poems. You know, musicians (including Michael Jackson) say they get their music and lyrics from that universal source for inspiration. Although Smelly Socks isn't up in the level as We Are The World, I think that's the same source I got my idea from because I can't figure out what on Earth I'd be thinking about socks for a poem for!

Idiot's Guide to Smart People

Author's Notes/Comments:

The first idea I got for this poem was the title, which is based on the Idiot's Guide to... series. So I thought how about an idiot's guide to smart people. I wrote it out in one sitting in the mall. So you should keep an idea notebook too, you never know when an idea will hit you and then they come in handy:o)

Blind Date

Author's Notes/Comments:

I've actually have had a couple of excellent blind dates, but I've had more (several of them were callers when I was a radio DJ) that were bad. Then I had one that finally tipped the balance on the scale of hopeful vs hopelessness and hopelessness outweighed hopeful in the end and I just had to express this in a poem.

Annoying Kinds of People

Author's Notes/Comments:

I noticed in other people's blogs that they rant a lot about something that happened to them with someone else and it gave me the idea of listing down some kinds of annoying people that there are out there.

Fat

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is the first topic that came to mind aside from making children's poems. Fat people are pretty good about making fun at themselves if they have a sense of humor. This was made 3 years ago, or as I like to say it, 45 pounds ago. Is there a future poem in the making entitled, "Thin?" :o)
