With moving and well-crafted images, you cleverly mix the sad and the absurd: the hat "Like that of a red and white dragon" has a bitter humor when "The lines in his mind/ Become longer and longer/ At every passing minute" (Amazing metaphorical language!) The twist that jumps out at the end is that perhaps he's not the farcical one; perhaps those "normal" people of the world passing him by are the twisted actors in our human drama. They welcome new ideas, even opposing ones, and are always willing to accept that they could be wrong. How else do we learn and allow the truth to "rise to the surface" as you said? Great thinkers have always been feared by closed-minded fanatics so you're in good company. George Orwell's quote was a perfect summation and is still relevant (especially!) today.
