It is never so lonely
as when
we abandon ourselves
Even in a crowded festive moment
the thing we forget
too often,
Is to sit in our present moment
Instead, we often skip along
the surface,
briefly touching others as we
skip along
Getting lost in the tonal image
of sound and music,
never letting the souls around us
penetrate the cloud
Where we often overspend our time
And yet they see us smiling
and laughing
and think we’re present,
When nothing could be further
from the truth
For they are engaged with
the co-processor,
that always churns in our brain
with no deliberation
While the main CPU churns away
somewhere else
But only in that moment, when we
return to our bodies,
firmly grounded in the present
Can we grab hold of ourselves and the switch
To have the awareness of mind
to remind ourselves,
to shut the damn computer off
And enjoy the moment and the company
