This reminds me of a science fiction story, from the thirties, that I first read in December, 1977 (when I was going through a situation very similar to what your poem describes) about a person (whether human or not I was never sure when reading the story) who began to shrink so small that atoms seemed like galaxies, and so on and so on. Back in July of 1974, on a Friday night (I was not, then, smart enough to make note of the date), I had a similar experience. I have never forgotten that event and what transpired after that.
