Where are Beautiful Ones?

Ugonna Wachuku

Nothing seems real.

Not even your face.

Not even your tears

and laughter.

Silent voices are

here.

Everything is

silent.

Everyone is

silent.

Even you.

Streams and waterfalls

are silent, too.

Also, love is silent;

if you know what

I mean.

My heartbeat is

silent for the

first time.

Now, I must rise

and go to your

beckoning, silent

heart.

Drumbeats from deep

forests of home sound

no more because we are

all silent.

We have entered the

time of no return

in starring faces of

newly born souls.

Now is the time to

take up our mats

and search for love.

Let us head for

silent rivers and

streams.

Let us meet nature

in the day's

refreshing silence.

Let us stand

empty.

Naked.

In nothingness.

Let us bleed from

wounds by these

fragrant roses.

Let us search for

beautiful ones.

Let us ask where

beautiful ones

are.

?

?

?

Days are short.

Nightfall must

not meet us

because there

will be no

moonbeams.

So, let us rise;

and in the silence

of our bountiful

hearts, search for

beautiful ones

because we can.

Profoundly beautiful. You brought a very important message home in a way that few people can without sounding trite or like a thousand other poems. But this is a fresh and poignant presentation: the words "let us bleed from wounds by these fragrant roses" simply melts inside you, it is such a magical way to express your feelings. The simplicity, the lyrical movement of the piece, the message . . . it's simply glorious.

Hi Ugonna, To me this poem speaks of soul searching and finding beauty within oneself... I particularly like the last line... "Because we can..."
I always find your words soothing to the soul!

The search for beauty in our cracked and broken world is neverending. This poem takes us past the clichés of outer beauty and asks us to "stand empty. Naked. In nothingness. Let us bleed from wounds by these fragrant roses." Doing such removes us from the banalities of the preception of beauty and asks us to continue the search in the silence, beneath the skin and on into the heart. A most wondrous venture indeed!!
