Life
Is
A chessboard.
Most people play the game
As one charcter, because
They have little character
To speak of, they are
Like a child that
Has never been able
To learn how to skip, and
They miss out on so many joys
Of life, locked into the same role all the time,
Not realizing, that in the game of real
Life, in order to win,
You must see beyond
The rules of game, and
It is not so much about
Each person having a
specific character, but
How flexible we choose
To be in each circumstance
That life throws at us in order
To achieve the outcomes we all want.
Some circumstances call for us to make
Ourselves a pawn in order to win the game.
Other circumstances require the knight, the rook,
Or the bishop, and there is no telling when the need
Will arise to play a given character for the betterment of all,
And that is the clincher when it comes to real life. People tend to
Look at things in a 'fixed' way. They limit their own opportunities by doing so,
And without realizing, they limit the opportunities of everyone in their life.
Being a Queen in real life, in the eyes of a pawn, may appear to be the best character to be,
But the truth is, this is the job of a real life Queen if she indeed wants the greatest
Good for all of the characters, which in turn, will be her own greatest good, she must, at times,
Be flexible enough to play the role of the pawn. And that is why, in all honesty, she is the QUEEN.

:) I couldn't agree more with the moral behind this piece my love :) not such a fan of the piece itself though...wondering two things 1. does anyone else notice how the poem kind of forms a queen? 2. did you do that on purpose?

Thanks for reading. Both of
Thanks for reading. Both of your questions can be answered by reading my comment to Astral under this one!

The Queen written in June 2013 by you was an excellent five-starred one.The placing of the letters resembling a "king/queen''whatever".Chessboard .. somehow I too think sometimes on the same line.I had sent a PM to Ben Arunmai Raj or commented on one of his posts (I don't remember which)some months back on this subject.Lovely post.Every word lapped up & wanting more.Hope more are coming just like this

i absolutely love this poem. i liked how it's all a comparison of life and a game, and it's so true.

Oh, I thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed it. To tell you the truth I was reminded of this today, afer making a choice to play the pawn...and being a bit disgruntled about it. Then I got the idea in my head to try and make it the shape of a chesspiece, and that's how the name came about.
The difficult truth I accepted was that sometimes, the wisest choice is to just sit back and play the pawn, as the queen's moment isn't ripe for playing yet, so best to let things come to a boiling point, then let your queen out to shine. :-)
...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."
"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

Character or No Character?
Pawn choices are tough sometimes. Oh yes they are. Nice weave. Character comes from hardship and survival of hardship, or extensive and pervasive love - a nice dichotomy, neh? - cool Queen in the line layout. ~Lady A~ p.s sorry about stolen computer.
