Ode to the American Poet and a Girl

"Stay while the night is still ahead,
I long to see you in the morning light."
Dancin' to Dylan, slowly losing our fabric,
You showed me what your heart looked like.
"Not a word was spoke between us,
there was little risk involved."
We knew any problem that could be had,
this music would know how to solve.
"She can take the dark out of nighttime,
and paint the daytime black."
She took the doubt out of my mind,
and showed me everything I lacked.
"They say every man needs protection,
they say every man must fall."
They said I was nothing but a fool,
to think you'd ever heed my call.
"But you and I, we've been through that,
and this is not our fate,"
We just keep wasting each others time,
and the hour, it's getting late.
Well, "You don't need a weather man,
to know which way the wind blows,"
I've seen this scene with you before,
with big white bags of folded clothes.
"My senses have been stripped,
my hands can't feel to grip,"
my heart, it's slowly ripped,
because my mind forgot your lips.
"How many years can a mountain exist,
before it's washed to the sea?"
And how many tears can a proud man shed,
before he forgets how to see?
"Please don't let on that you knew me,
when I was hungry and it was your world."
Just tell me that you'll never forget,
that night we danced and twirled.
"You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on,
but don't think twice, it's all right."
Because I'll always have good ol' Dylan playin',
to remind me what your heart looked like.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I only take credit for half of this poem. the rest goes to Bob Dylan. He kinda helped me write it.
