Words

A true gift from God!

Digging deeper than the mantle of the Earth

Flying us to destinations never before envisioned by any being

And beyond that which human-kind dares to imagine

Taking those without eyes

To autumn's kaleidoscope bazaar

And those without ears to an early morning

Orchestra of twitters and trills

Of nature's conversation

Words make known the perspective

Of the highest eagle

And impart hidden secrets of the sea

Only the starfish can know

Words play the tune

to a lover's new dance

Painting each dip and turn

As if it were the first

And none comparable

Since the beginning of time

Harsh like granite

Tearing trusts and scraping souls

Leaving scars that even their innocent

counterparts cannot graft or repair

They rip and snag a created thing

Causing more destruction

than hammer or bomb

The instigator of war and coup

Sparking revolutions and birthing nations

What fortune and privilege

Lie in surrounding one's self

With age-old chronicles of power

And graceful impact

A past and present collection

Of influence, fury, and fantasy

The record of such evolution of the Human intellect

And revelation that can only come

From our Lord

Whose beauty and never-ending awe

Make it all possible

Truly a gift from God!

Author's Notes/Comments:

Words - they are the seed and capsule of every emotion felt or conveyed - yet we never think about that. Although poetry can be seen in a sunset, smelled in a flower garden, or felt in an early autumn breeze, words are the only means of capturing all of them and encapsulating them for future pleasure for years to come.
