Love Letters Of Long Ago

Tied with a ribbon of pale blue bow,

his words lie sleeping from long ago.
Whispers of promises, ink turned thin,
vows to be mine, to never give in.

One quiet morning the sunlight changed;
I felt the distance, subtle, strange.
He said he needed to drift, to roam,
yet swore someday he’d find his way home.

Fifteen winters, fifteen springs;
still his echo inside me sings.
Today I opened a time-worn box,
and touched the treasures I thought I’d lost

tied with that ribbon of soft blue bow,
his love letters of long ago.

And though the years have carried me far,
I keep a chamber inside my heart;
a place for the boy I used to know,
with his love letters of long ago
