                   gonna

                   Do it anyway



                   Went to your

                   schools

                   studied your

                   rules



                   Told me - that

                   I couldn't do

                   my thang



                   Told me - that

                   my thang

                   was too unrealistic



                   That I should shorten

                   my view

                   in lieu

                   of what you

                   felt to be true



                   You thought that

                   I wasn't bright enough

                   to realize

                   what you meant

                   Is that

                   I'm not white enough



                   Almost went

                   for the Okie-doke

                   'til I realized

                   My thang

                   was the pun

                   in your joke



                   Then it dawned

                   on me

                   that

                   Christopher Columbus

                   Lied about his thang

                   Malcom was shot

                   because people were

                   afraid of his thang

                   Martin Luther....

                   murdered 'cause

                   they were tired

                   of hearing his thang

                   and did not like

                   where he was going

                   with it



                   Bottom line

                   after all is considered

                   on how you figured
