Too Late

As the sun rises and he awakes to face another day,

He stays inside his room- inside his mind locked away.

Fearful of the world -and other people he can’t face,

He’s afraid someone will ask what’s wrong- and he won’t have an answer to say.

So today, he declares, will be different- He’s decided to walk away,

From this Life, from these fears, from the insecurities of living this way.

No one will know of these plans- Until after it is too late,

He hates the world, he hates the people, he hates living his fate.

He stumbles into the kitchen where his mom is staring at him,

She looks into his eyes, but she refuses to see his problems.

She asks if he intends- on making his way to school,

Softly he answers no-And she replies by calling him a fool.

He shakes his head and walks away for the fear of being patronized,

Then his dad walks into the room- And says they should talk- Guy to Guy.

He says whatever and takes a seat -keeping his head toward the ground,

His father talks-he pretends to listen, shaking his head and looking around.

Upset, his father rises, and he begins to curse his son out,

The boy gets up and goes to his room, without a word escaping his mouth.

He hears the fighting through the walls, and then he hears his mother scream,

This is reason number one- The constant abuse and beating.

The boy gets dressed to go to school- Because he can’t stay home any longer,

A mistake he would pay dearly for- Because his anger would grow only stronger.

Once at school he goes to class, where the taunting begins immediately,

From his first class to his last, the boy is teased repeatedly.

He has no friends, except one girl, who he considers to be his Angel,

She’s the only person who has ever cared- She’s kept him out of danger.

He goes to her to seek her comfort- But today she doesn’t seem the same,

She ignores his cries for help to her- She’s too busy hanging with her gang.

As school lets out and he begins to go home, he remembers what was in store,

The fighting and the arguing- He can’t deal with that any more.

So instead of home he goes to the park- So he can be alone and think about stuff,

After some thinking he makes up his mind- He’s finally had enough.

He makes his way home knowing what’s ahead-But he knows this is the last,

No more fighting, no more teasing- All that stuff is in the past.

No more depression and hopeless feeling- He’s escaping all his problems,

He knows this isn’t the best way of relief- But he sees it as his only option.

As he enters the house his father greets him with yelling and asking where he’s

been,

The boy responds with a soft tone voice-”I went over to a friends.”

His mother is sitting on the couch- As he walks pass her he sees,

Blackened eyes, bruised up arms, bloody nose and cut up knees.

He shakes his head and continues to his room- With his father following behind,

He enters his rooms and turns around- Knowing what’s on his mind.

He stares his father in his eyes- And he sees all of his madness,

But he doesn’t know his father is staring back- And can see all of his sadness.

He walks away and closes the door and the boy proceeds to write,

This is his letter, his farewell note, for he will end his Life tonight.

He finishes the letter and prays to God- And hopes that he’ll be forgiven,

If not it doesn’t matter much because he is still tired of Living.

An hour later at about 7 o’clock a gun shot is heard in his house,

His parents rush in to find him laying on the floor- With the gun still in his mouth.

Two days later a funeral is held- And it is attended by many people,

People who thought of this young man as a friend- But they couldn’t see their

own evil.

During the funeral the parents decided to have his suicide note read aloud,

And as it was read and everyone listened- A sudden silence came over the crowd.

It seemed they had all done something to him-Something to make him wanna go,

They didn’t think too much of the event- But the boy never let them know.

And now it made sense-Why he was sad, and never seemed in the mood,

If only they had known maybe they could have stopped-Instead a friend they’d

lose.

If he had known these people did care it might not have ended this way,

But sometimes in Life you don’t find things out until after it is too late.

Moral:

If you care about someone let them know today. Don’t wait for tomorrow because you

never know if tomorrow will come.

Wow what an awesome job
It flowed so well, each transition so smooth. I was in tears.
This is as good as any fable I've read. And on a subject that so many young people write about, but society would rather not deal with. An important piece of literature that needs to be published in my opinion.

Thanks for sharing that. We need more fiction that deals with this subject. Society is too afraid of it. Read my story, Celly, on my site, if you want.
