As one sits on the edge
Of the Grand Canyon,
On a dark moonless night,
It's as if the world were a disc,
And one is at its edge.
The canyon's dark silhouette
Reaches out to infinity
Like the ocean's horizon.
Here and there a headlamp
Shines across the chasm
Like a star across the vast deep.
Up above, the night sky,
And her millions of stars
Shines bright and clear.
The Milky Way, in her silky gown,
Flows across the night sky,
Mirroring the mighty Colorado
Ever etching its way into ancient rock.
On a moonless night
As one sits on the rim
Of the Grand Canyon
It's as if one were at world's end,
And the entire universe is visible.
Visiting this again, I find
Visiting this again, I find it just as beautiful as on the first read. I normally do not care for what the professors at my college called "landscape" poems, and this is essentially one, but your talent transcends that old reading preference, and I am mighty impressed by your ability to help me see the Canyon and to feel its effects.

Cheers!
I often thought this poem would put me in trouble as a "flat-earther"
but I am glad to see this is not the truth and that readers embraced the metap and the associated imagery as I meant it.
We'll just keep writing 'til there's nothing left to write.
We'll just keep waiting 'til they read all our works left to right.
This is incredibly beautiful,
This is incredibly beautiful, but the final two lines surpass even the previous degree of beauty.
Starward
it feels
so vast and us so small..
makes one think of the immensity of the bigger things and us as tiny as micro ants.
it makes you ponder, how can He ever so mindful of lil' me
nice write too!

this poem was nice
Your owl, coyote story drew me in first.
Then I read your profile, I share similar feeling re: PP.
(even if I'm not currently happy with my own work.)
Looking forward to reading more of yours...

thanks
I've spent the summer here at Grand Canyon
so I felt I had to write something about it.
We'll just keep writing 'til there's nothing left to write.
We'll just keep waiting 'til they read all our works left to right.

Sounds lovely. I have n been to the deepest parts of Grand Canyon. Only the outer rims. Someday I'd like to experience the larger parts. Hope to see more of your work...
