I wonder why we hurt the ones we love
The ones that give us all that they have
Why do we take for granted those close
We always seem to cause them suffering
We take all they have to give unselfishly
Why do we need to walk all over them?
And not care about what we say and do
Whether the words we say to them hurt
I wonder why we take the love they offer
And grind it in the dirt beneath our feet
Why do we not consider those we love
With that same unselfish love they give
We seem to take all their love and caring
As if it is given to us by some divine right
Why do we use them and their gifts to us?
Why are we not thankful for the love given?
I wonder at the strange phenomenon of love
Where we will find the takers and the givers
There are the ones who give all they have
There are those who take all that's given
Whatever happened to the balance of life
In which true love is both given and taken
A place where unselfishness can be found
And love in all its glory is discovered to abound
i love this poem
Why are some people selfless, and some self-centered only? Why does love strike one, and not the other? Age old questions, for each to seek their own answers..... I believe if love is "true" for both, then the harmonic balance of which you dream becomes a reality....yet, far too many "takers" simply "play" at love, and use its gift as just another tool of their ongoing manipulative behavior!!! Great poem here, with a deep message, probing insights, and written with flair and great flow!!!
Good questions! I've often wondered the same but you know as well as I do that as long as we're imperfect we seem to keep on taking and hurting one another and love isn't perfect either though I think it was meant to be....Eric True
