I noticed that she wore pale blue nail polish
and how it matched her pale blue eyes
I was young and sort of stupid
she was just a bit older --
but somehow much more wise
back then when we were sitting close together
while listening to music in my car
I just didn't know what to say
my poor little, simple, mind went completely blank
-- I just muttered -- that she was pretty --
she didn't laugh at my youthful stammering
( thankfully )
and she just smiled softly and said
"don't worry -- Terry -- It's alright --
everything's -- "OK"
I know now --- I'LL always be grateful
and yes even lucky
to have met that slightly older woman
I might as well admit it right now
I'LL always totally adore her
for her wisdom and kindness
who said to me ---
don't worry --- Terry -- everythings --- OK --
It's alright really -- I just know it is ---
( and didn't laugh at my stammering )
--- on that bright summer's day ---
way, way back then -- at our Canadian Provincial Park ---
on that long May 24th week-end of 1972
-- way -- back -- when even us -- the long ago --
burnt-out and forgotten -- hippies --
back when we were young then too ----
-- on that bright summer's day --
under clear blue skies
when I talked to -- and listened to music --
there in my car --
with that really pretty, young, blond woman --
who was just a bit older --
but somehow --- much more wise ---
that day -- when she filled my head
with her beautiful romantic lies
and yet all the while
as she wore the pale blue nail polish
that matched those pale blue eyes

Revisiting this again, I find
Revisiting this again, I find it just as beautiful and poignant.

This is a very beautiful poem. The emotion it summons is almost too much for words. I applaud this poem with sincere enthusiasm.
