when we get desperate
we try to break away
from our most basic
animal ways
but cannibalizing
our inner beast
keeps us in a cycle
we just can't breach, anyway
you can hotwire a car
but it's still a car
still only can do
what vehicles are made to do
you cannot change the world
the world is so much bigger than your ego
you cannot change the self
humanity's expanse exists on a loop
so fix your hair in the morning
try fashion, feel different
but you're still just a vehicle
for history to repeat itself
you've been here before,
in someone else
you've been here before,
in yourself, as well
i know that's a lot to understand
but whether or not you ever do
the world keeps going round and round
and your head will keep spinning, too
so enjoy the ride, my friend
the best you can at heart
but don't devour yourself
because practiced teeth get sharp
and cannibalizing
our inner beast
keeps us in a cycle
we just can't breach
we eat ourselves,
we eat each other,
we eat
we eat, we eat
now you're going to try to starve
we've all seen this one before
your body will devour itself
therefore, you'll eat
so enjoy the ride, my friend
even though there's no hope
recall carving up yourself
means practiced teeth get sharp
and cannibalizing
our inner beast
keeps us in a cycle
we just can't breach
taking on the world
that always been my style, friend
but i wholly accept
it's not gonna change the planet
the past is the future
i'm just playing my part
in a remade off broadway play
doesn't mean i'm gonna stop
i'm not saying it's fate
hell, i can't name what it is
heaven rise and heaven fall
people long for what they're not at all
but i won't devour myself
the ghost will always run the show
it haunts me no more
This just brought to mind how
This just brought to mind how the process of poetry can also be seen in cannibalistic terms, for that matter, art and all creative process. Perhaps as far as to say that the arts is a culture's way of devouring itself and still proceed in its line of issue and succession. Perhaps, this line thinking goes ahead of itself. Thanks for sharing. /Rik.

"...practiced teeth get sharp"
.
The intent to eat beasts - and the results not recommended - you might need your beast later? or we brush our teeth, chomp on beast to remain civil, rinse.
or
beasts taste bad and are only worth
acknowledging and, like fog, move on.
or
something esoteric and too tantalizing
for non-epicurianistic mere mortals.
