A Memory Of My Love

You search in vain within a crowd

yet sense my presence there.

I’m with thee always, in your mind,

my essence’s everywhere.

Just look for me within your heart,

recall the love we share.

Listen closely hear the wind

rustling through the trees.

Feel it touch your skin and hair,

it sings my name to thee.

I’m the voice within thy soul,

the whisper in the breeze.

Should thou immerse in shadow

alone within the night.

Ne’er fear the empty cold nor dark

of me thou shan’t lose sight.

Recall the warmth within my eyes,

a flickering candlelight.

Like gossamer wings of butterflies,

its touch a soft caress.

Beating deep within thy heart,

a- flutter in your chest.

The never-ending touch of love,

my soul yet thee possess.

This poem reminds me of one I found in an old mildewed book in my Grandma's barn. I don't remember the author's name, but I remember sitting beside the open hay-loft door all afternoon reading page after page of lovely love poetry. Teenaged girls do that sort of thing. This is very evocative yet keeps good taste and common sense in perspective.
