Summerdress

Some day sunlight

Will shine on my life

Dear mother can you see

Shed your tears down on me

Oh, father, lend a smile

Grant me courage for a while

This journey's mine to make this day

Keep me on the path I pray

No one can find

'Till comes their time

Will the stories carry me

Will the light only deceive

Fly high spirit wings

Closer to the heart it brings

Things forgotten, names lost

Unconditional love never counts the cost

And I'll keep your memory in my mind

Faces and names like the changing times

Drifting away on a river of life

Moonsongs and sunbeams cascading down

A gentleness from above

A soothing touch from the hand of my love

She dreams at night

Dreams of starlight

Words spoken soft and dear

Bestills the heart and soothes the ear

My love sings to me

Soft songs of wind in the trees

Give to me your tender hold

Lest this road makes my heart cold

Will the stories give me sight?

Will your love keep me safe through the night?

Fly high spirit song

Give me strength until the dawn

Day break begets the dawn

To see the end of this road Iā€™m on

As I hold your face in my eyes

Heartbeat like thunderstorms in the sky

Racing to hold you so close my dear

Watching the setting sun slip away

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is one of those that I'm not sure what inspired it. To me it's about longing; that pain in your heart when you desire something but don't have it or can never have. As for the title, this work made me think of a beautiful woman on a summer day, wearing a summerdress flowing in the breeze...or something.

I think we've all seen that lovely girl in the summerdress... and I think we've all yearned for her in some way or another. Not much else I can think to say old friend. Bravo.
