The Conception Of "A Thousand Years"

Folder:
Love and Dreams

(For the desire of destiny)

And so my love, we sit to watch the sun set

How many times since once we met?

We were old but acted as babes

All that was said and the mistakes that were made

Just a memory now, to shake my head

Look at our hands, so wrinkled and frail

What once was robust is as thin as a rail

But your eyes, my love, your eyes!

Reflecting all that has gone by

They have been young this whole time

So vibrant and blue, I see a love that is mine

You say that you love me and I tell you I know

When I hear your admission how it makes my heart glow

I thank that which delivered -fate, luck or destiny

Whichever it was that brought you to me

I think that without your touch and your song

Perhaps my age would not be so long

Look my love, look at the sun

Another long day is just about done

Let us stay a bit and finish the night

Stay until the stars bring out their light

Then we will hobble, to bed we will go

With the knowledge that we each adore

What we cannot have alone, but together we share

A love everlasting, that will always be there.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is the "working" poem that eventually became the poem "A Thousand Years" (which can also be read from my author page).
