"will lose their honor; and their ancient name
"will bear, for some time, local calumny.
"Her child, born out of common fornication---
"partaking of sinner's degradation---
"will have the burden of a storied past;
"and on him troubling questions will be cast.
"Having grown up here in our neighborhood
"(and thirteen years old this past spring), she should
"have shown more sense.  And yet, the carpenter,
"Joseph, our friend, still wants to marry her.
"The talk about that flies on every breath
"of conversation here in Nazareth."
