Old Oak Tree

Every day I passed by that old oak tree,

never once did it ever speak to me,

then today as I passed by,

I declare I heard it say "Hi"

I looked at the oak and said,

"Did you really speak to me?"

And it replied,

"Is there anyone else here you see?"

Looking about it was plain as could be,

There were no others 'cept that tree and me.

"Have I lost mind, talking to a tree?"

The old tree just laughed and shook his leaves.

"All these years I have passed by,

and never once did you say 'hi'"

To this replied the old oak,

"don't blame me, you never spoke.

Today I took the bull-by-the-horns

and spoke to you, now be nice or

I will pelt you with acorns."

I was lost for words, "this can't be true

You are a tree, I shouldn't be talking to you."

"Why not? Excuse the pun," said he

"No one will hear you talking to me."

"It isn't often I can converse

Cause most humans hear, runaway and curse.

They don't heed natures voice,

But you listen and now have a choice"

"Are you crazy?  Who is to know?

If you would like we can explore that before you go.

Where are you going?  Come again!

Tee hee hee, that will be the last I see of that friend."

Just for fun

This is a refreshing piece that could very well be published in a child's book. It's fun, lively, entertaining, graphic, and best of all it puts a smile on everyone's face who reads it. Great write!

I find this poetry revealing the deep roots of imaigination that soothe loneliness acting as a balm. It is just beautiful. Honestly I love it. Brings back my visuals of the natural surroundings where you can really converse with trees and plants. Now and then I speak to my indoor plants too. It is not insane because you must have heard of plants responding to music and bearing better fruits. I am grateful to you for sharing this with us.
