It was a warm Caribbean evening. I was sitting on my second floor patio drinking an unenhanced papaya juice and munching on a beignet. I was thinking about life. I could look down the hill at a casino and bustling road near the beach. I was thinking how nice it was to be unencumbered. I lived in a large house but it was unfulfilling. Did I really need all the possessions and space? It was really nice to just have a small room with a kitchen on the patio and a refrigerator to hold my beverages.
Pure simplicity
A moment to coolly reflect
peaceful but still free
It might be nice to get rid of a lot of the clutter and the junk. It might be nice to live in a nice smaller space. Maybe Henry David Thoreau was on to something all those years ago in his little shed on Walden Pond. I was thinking how peaceful and stress free it felt a month earlier when I was in Reykjavik. Everyone is consumed with greed. It turns out that more you consume the more you get consumed with desire and want. It gave me something to think about. It made me question where I was at in my life. I knew downscaling might be the road to travel

Yes, I think your contemplations are onto something. Less is more when less is a choice.
Emotionally, mentally, and/or physically starved people seek constant consumption at every chance. Some are starved by others, while others, ironically, are starved by themselves. Often, I suppose, it's a little (or a lot) of both.
What ever the case, beautifully written reflections, like the rippled layers of trees and sky on a breeze-brushed pond.
