Passenger Seat Prayers

There's a spot in my chest where my heart used to beat.
But I drowned it with longing from the passenger seat.
Out the window the tree line whips by in a blur.
I'd tell you I loved you if I wasn't unsure.

The revving of engines fills the void in the space,
where the butterflies flew at the sight of your face.
I'd like to believe my tongue still hits the mark,
To find the rhythm and tempo that matches your heart.

Like old clothes, our comfort came apart at the seams.
Our nightmares together became our daydreams.
I still see you in summer, when the day meets the night.
But it's turning to fall and you're losing the fight.
