Parable of the Talents

Matthew 25:14-30

Fine talents gave a Master  to His men,

-His serfs- for them to manage and invest,

And He expected, profit, yields and gain

By their increase through proper interest.

The first man got five talents and with zest,

With single-mindedness and with great pride,

He hurried off the talents to invest,

A gifted chap he was and did alright.

The second man too ran with spunk and zeal

With his two talents which was fair enough

For he lacked aptitude  and business skill,

But he made up for this by steadfast love.

The third man got one only talent, for

The Master knew he lacked in expertise.

For deals and many another  chore,

And he was lazy, laggard and obese.

This chap just dug a hole into the ground,

The precious  Talent therein to conceal,

So deep, that it could nevermore be found,

And it brought  interest, zilch, zero, nil.

It happened that the Master then returned,

The status of His boons and gifts to see,

If interest on the latter had been earned,

Through dedication and integrity.

The first two men obtained a great reward,

For efforts made the Master's reign to spread,

His kingdom and the Glory of the Lord,

But for the third man it looked rather bad.

Ah! wasted Talent,- buried in the ground,

What bitter loss, malheur, and what a shame,

Concealed,- it never made the world go round

The glory of its Master to proclaim.

So waste no talents dearest friends I plead,

Lo!  but  invest with zeal and eagerness,

And put your heart and mind and soul to it

And God will wreak increase and richly bless.
