My British in-laws are so courteous,-
When on a letter they write my address,-
Its protocol perhaps, but just the same,
They give the widow the lost spouse’s name
It is a small thing, but so indicative
Of empathy in bitter loss and grief:
“Dear Mrs. STEPHEN Dandy!” - all the woe
Is eased,- I love this “Mrs.” STEPHEN” so.
Not Madame Else, Beth, nor Elizabeth,
But “MRS. .STEPHEN“ - oh it makes me glad!
It may perhaps be English etiquette,
But it does tell me I’m forever wed
I mind this change of name not in the least,-
I feel my strength thereby so much increased,
I is a balm upon my grieving soul,
Be blessed forever British Protocol.!
My in-laws are reserved and somewhat stiff,
But they do surely know how to ease grief;.
I don’t believe it it is formality
For “Mrs. STEPHEN” I am meant to be.
Death did not part us -no,- death did not part!
He lives within my spirit soul and heart;.
But thanks dear in-laws for your graciousness
I‘m Mrs. STEPHEN always, yes.- God Bless!
