I should have fled,
knowing You bled
and died on a cross
for things such as this.
Why did I not resist?
Why did I not persist
in loving You more than me?
Why did I give up being free?
Why do I choose to continue
to be sin’s slave, when You
are softly calling me closer?
Oh, I could easily be a connoisseur
of righteousness, purity, and holiness;
but instead, my life remains a mess
because sinful temptation, I do not resist.
My life remains a mess, because I do not persist
in loving You more than me.
Oh, I could easily be free
from sins’ entanglement.
Oh, I could easily find life’s only true fulfillment
if only I would return to You, humbly
asking You to purify all of me.
