I saw the girl upon his arm
When did he grow, his stature, his charm
I did not fret. There was no alarm
My boy is growing up
He led her forth They were discreet
Proudly he offered her for me to meet
Her beaming aura. Her stance petite
My boy is growing up
Our first-born lifted above my head so high
His infectious laugh and his infantile cry
His character develops as twelve years go by
My boy is growing up
I should have been attuned to the clues
Attention to hair, his clothes and his shoes
Confident and opinionated and setting his views
My boy in growing up
I brace myself for the friends he makes
His growing heart is new it gives and it takes
I will revel when it flutters and catch it when it breaks
My boy is growing up
So now I stand with my boy at my side
On the verge of his adulthood we both stand with pride
For she is his first trophy and I his first guide
My boy is growing up
