my uncle, SSG Mark Mulvaney, would've been in the mess hall at the time of the bombing but he was on emergency leave because of his father's death..his plane took off just as the bomb blew. that mess tent, in particular, was the same tent my uncle went to lunch at every day. one of the people on his squad was hit in the leg by a bomb and another soldier carried him out.
