It was summer in 2001 and from our flat in Suleman Plaza, Karachi, I could hear the Azaan (The call for prayer) resounding all around. The poem is a reaction to what I felt.

This poem was composed on a gloomy autumn evening of the 1980s and modified on a lonely November evening decades later, when I had just finished reading Thomas Gray's "Elegy Written In A Country Churchyard", for the umpteenth time and all of a sudden started missing my first love...the unforgettable Daphne...so the revised version is here.

i just feel i do have talent somewhere, it just doesnt show up in my work. i hope to make this a life, writing at some points mean everything to me, but how can i be proud of something that just may never have existed?

in the book "the bell jar" ester, when asked how she feels, replies "the same" despite a few sessions of the quick fix, shock therapy. i always wanted to know what it felt like to feel "the same" since i always felt sadness or lonliness or apathy or some other isolating feeling, but now i realize that all along this is 'the same' that i always felt, just never knew it....
