gone

in the smoke filled room that night
she looked so out of place
an empty glass close to her hand
confusion on her face

the beat kept getting louder
and the dancing had begun
but she kept all to herself
she wasn’t here for fun

when her glass got empty
she quietly asked for more
it was getting hard to see
through the haze on the dance hall floor

images went racing
in the corners of her mind
then they all got tangled up
when mixed with cheap red wine

as she stood up slowly
she began to fade away
the dance hall slowly left her
there were no words now to say

she couldn’t leave, she wasn’t there
it seems she’d vanished in the smoke filled air
there were no pieces that remained
so she left as quietly as she came …
