I saw a butterfly the other day,
And thought if all the things it meant.
I watched it as it flew away,
And thought of all the things it meant.
In its wings, I saw a knife
And Death in dark, black robes.
I saw the frailty of life,
Its sadness and its woes.
However, I also saw beautiful things,
The beauty of the world shining
Through colours of her lovely wings,
I saw a little angel smiling.
And then I saw something quite strange
Beyond the clouds, beyond this world,
I saw a light, I saw a dream,
A real glimpse of Paradise.
I woke up from unconsciousness
My eyes were opened in surprise
Tears we're running down my cheeks
And yet, there, on my face: A smile.
The butterfly then disappeared,
I never saw her wings again...
I've tried to stare at others' wings
But they just move, then fly away.
