Glacier and Lava

A Cecilia Villanueva, Pablo Garcia and Valeria Peña fable.

Glacier and Lava

At the beginning, there was nothing, only space and dust. Two mythical phoenix were born. They were big and strong and grace but old. One was cold as ice and the other hot as fire. The two brothers were the rules of space and time and nothing else. These two brothers, like most of other brothers and sisters, have fights, although at the end of the day, they need each other because of their loneliness. They started to fill the space with ice and fire, suddenly they realize they created stars. It was fun while it last, competing every time to build the biggest star, but it was never enough.  For a while boredom ruled.

– “Now what?” Ice said. “There should be something more.”

Fire was away, and nothing was heard. Ice was tired of being unable to find his brother, and every time he disappears in the darkness he wondered where Fire has hidden.  For centuries Ice had been alone and lost, while Fire was getting better and stronger. Fire wanted to be the one, the ruler, that is why he sometimes suddenly disappeared into the obscurity, where he felt he can do whatever he wants.

Fire love to create creatures with his powers, just to feel powerful, but he kept them hidden from Ice, because he felt that that’s the only thing that differentiated from his brother. But one day, Ice could not stand to being alone and went to search for his brother as far as the dark reach.

–“Where are you brother? Although we are the only creatures I am worried about you.” a concerned Ice kept yelling.

Until, from the distance, he saw something moving with such enthusiasm that he did not recognize that it was his brother that thing that was working with fervor. As he move forward he started feeling confused for what his brother have hide from him, until he ended with a sensation of loneliness, but most of all, betrayed.

–“What are you doing brother?” exclaimed the giant and magnificent creature, expecting an apology, although that was the last thing that Fire thought.

–“Leave me alone! Finally I feel that I am distinct from you, I am tired of sharing everything.” said Fire.

Ice felt confused but consider this one as other of their normal fights, but Fire does not have that in mind. So the giants began to fight, a fight that was worth to stare, in which the emotions were sensed from billions of miles away. Fire was stronger, but Ice was clever. And after this fight, the last fight, that marked the end of both, and alongside a great collapse, the outcome of light and life. So Ice clashed into Fire. Making a vast cloud of dust and darkness. Thousand and thousand of years later, light came out of the dark nothing and started to create the planets we now see. We still chant the songs with the names of gods, Glacier and Lava.
