Your Deathbed

As you lie on your deathbed

I hardly know what to say.

There's so much to tell

But I need more than just today.

It's hard to find

Just where to begin.

There's so many places

That we haven't yet been.

I try to sputter out

Exactly what I feel

But I still don't believe it

The situation is so unreal.

I don't want you to go

No, not just yet.

There's so much in life

That I just don't get.

I need your advice

And I still need your help.

It's always so precise

No one else's comes close.

But I see you're slipping away

So I close my eyes tight

And think back to another day

When the future was still bright.

Author's Notes/Comments:

My inspiration was my Uncle. I was never as close as I would have liked to be but he was a man of great wisdom and he always made me feel like he cared, I miss him.

I love this poem so much. It's one of the best I've seen recently, well done! I love the ending, the last stanza, it's a perfect way to end a poem. This literally made me go goosebumpy it's so emotion provoking. Very, very good.
