Military chaplain
in the chapel..
do you tell the
soldiers that
Jesus told them to
put down their swords?
"Thou Shalt Not Kill"
do you repeat those words?
do you say:
Stoners put down your stones
.. .. and walk peaceward
Oh chaplain as you work
on your captain's bars
and your retirement pay..
do you care that you
are not working for
but against Jesus?
re the previous critique: it is in Luke on
the Thursday before Gethsemane that Jesus
says pick up your sword.. He says it
so that 2 or 3 hours? later He can tell Peter
to put it down.. for "My Kingdom is not of this world"
Isaiah: They shall study war no more
Sermon On The Mount: Blessed are the Peacemakers..
they shall be called children of God
Isaiah: Turn your weapons into plowshares
God: Thou Shalt Not Kill
For starters I don't resemble anything close to an authority on scripture. I have read the bible, though, and have faith in it's teachings and thought you might be interested in this: I don't have the exact words in front of me but since you are interested in the using the bible to prove your point maybe you should look up the passage (Leviticus maybe?) where Jesus says "trade your cloaks for swords" - I believe he is saying that there is a time for fighting when the greater good is served - It may not be everyones individual greater good but I guess that is why GOD doesn't leave decisions of the magnitude concerning the greater good and greater evil up to us - He does however give us the free will to ignore his direction - Lets pray we all listen closely.
