DECORATION
(T. Beechey)
I saw a picture in a book that was unrelated to the written page
And I wondered each time I'd look why this picture took center stage
If it wasn't part of the presentation; I asked the author,a worldly sage
"It's simply there for decoration, something I felt the need to engage."
I saw a painting on a wall and I asked why it was hanging there
She said,"Before that space was dull,so drab and boring, completely bare
"It's not even my creation,I don't possess an artist's flair
"It's simply there for decoration, something I felt the need to share."
To fill a space,provide a glance
Away from all that's always been
Perhaps to grant a second chance
And give new meaning once again
To what was forever looked upon
As being just another thing
So that,in time,hither and yon
All the goodness life may bring
I saw an etching on a stone, just a myriad of squiggly lines
To me,the subject was unknown...what was meant by these designs?
The more I stared,I felt elation and, through it all, reality shines
It was simply there for decoration, something someone felt the need to define
I saw a flower through the crack of a broken city sidewalk trail
And I watched folks travel forth and back and, never once without fail
Did they notice the transformation, they didn't see anything to hail...
It was simply there for decoration but that's not the end of the tale
To fill a void of long-lost dreams
From echoes of a distant past
United with the unbirthed themes
Of those whose presence couldn't last
Joined with the still-awaited cries
From ones whose time is yet to come
The decoration is before our eyes
And now I'll tell you where it's from
A long time ago,the Earth was formed in the vastness of an endless sky
Mountains rose and temperatures warmed and then there came a Voice on High:
"Who will share in My Appreciation of all of this" --- yes,it's no lie
We are simply here for decoration for He felt the need for you and I
Long time no see! (^_^) It's been a while, hasn't it? As for this piece, very intriguing especially the last phrase; the definite kicker to my thoughts!!!
Well,
take care always. I'll see you around if I do.
I really like the way you use words... You paint the picture well, which seems ironic in this piece, but I like it. Very nice.
