America, America!

Folder:
Dannie Baldwin

America, America!
The land of promise
To thee we came:
The good and honest.
We built our foundations
And planted our seeds
Within the womb
Of the mother
Of nationalities.
Your days of past,
Some quite glorious,
With the presidents of men
Who were quite curious;
Whom feared not
Just to be free,
But to have justice, liberty
And equality.
But in these days
Of hatred and war
The cry for help
Cannot be ignored.
Our little children,
Some of whom
Are just born,
Their only foundation
Is being scorned
By inflation,
And more poverty,
Your cost for living
Is hard to believe.
America, America!
Our home of liberty.

Author's Notes/Comments:

My dad's friend doesn't have an email address so he can't create a name on postpoems, so I'm creating his own folder so I can write some of his poems here like he wanted...
