Awakening is very painful in the Land where Everyone Sleeps. Extreme efforts are needed for one's eyes to stay open, almost as if keeping them so would have the effect of a deeply feared dream, a paralyzing nightmare. In the Land where Everyone Sleeps whoever manages to eventually awaken has to fight their eyelids, confront relaxed arms and wobbling legs, the sharp horizontal will, the deceitful tiresomeness of neverending rest. And whoever does keep their eyelids open has to remember their dreams very well so that, once awake, they will know where to go. Because the only nice thing about this Land is that it is borderless.
