Jumper

in some midwestern town
off some country gravel road
down a narrow drive of six, maybe seven miles or so
on some starless black September night
where all roads end
Baby Girl was there
she was there for no better reason than
The Empty had called her there
she climbed to the top of the fire tower
and just sat there … just thinking
and thinking
and thinking
and thinking
things could've been different
could've been a child of the heavens
could've been pure of heart
could've been a pretty girl
but she was none of that
she listened to them
heard them say … to one another
with condemning eyes that darted to and fro
just how ass ugly she was
just how stupid ignorant she was
just how foul of body she was
so she jumped
and for the very first time
in her miserable existence
she was free... free of the bindings of man
free of what she had learned she was
free as she floated
free... free... free
and when her head hit the road below
it exploded
and her beautiful mind went everywhere
the town cried for her
but the people had to blame someone, by damn
so they pointed guiltfilthy, indignant fingers
at one another
and by the hand of an angry god
it was written in the words of clouds
'... there is shame upon you all'

The exploding head was melodramatic - out of sinc with the balance of the poem - except for the exploding head, I liked the poem - suicide justified - think good thots - Lady A
