Throwing the Hammer

Understand it's only doubt

The kind that is coupled with the

Familiarity

Of woundings past

That spurs my wall-building

Fear, the bricks I carry

To the space between us two

Cementing them in place

To fill what seems like hollowness

In spite of myself

I keep trying to throw over the hammer

So you can break thru

But you seem to be unaware

And it somehow continues to find its way

Back onto my side

Unused but far from useless

So in between brick-laying

I throw the hammer again

Waiting for you to notice

Author's Notes/Comments:

Another one from my isolated days.  There was a specific person on the other side of that wall, but time has erased their face and name from my memory.
