Eyes Wide Shut

You see everything in front of you- That's as far as your vision goes,

You don't see past the the fake- Your mental eyes are closed.

You can only see- What someone wants you to see,

You do not see them for who they really be.

Most with untold secrets- And it's killing them to keep it,

Living only a portion of their lives- The words hurt to be repeated.

Your eyes are wide shut- They're opened but still closed,

You focus on the outter- When so much deeper it goes.

They are mentally fighting battles- Go stare into their eyes,

Talk to them and listen- Hear the things that they hide.

Never judge a book by it's cover- Things are never what they appear,

They may be living undercover- Hiding from their fears.

And hiding all their tears- Silently screaming out loud,

Asking you for help- Without ever speaking out loud.

Too ashamed to hold their head proud- Or to walk in a crowd,

Living a "loner" life- Being followed by a cloud.

These are the people you never really talk to,

Their lives seem too boring- So you just walk through.

Not paying any attention- Almost like you don't see them- But,

How could you ever see them- When your eyes are wide shut?
