I was thinking

If the most essential worker in a heat wave 

Happens to be the A.C. guy

What would happen in Washington DC?

You'd have a DC/A.C. guy

Who probably goes both ways

But you only want him to go one way 

Straight to where the A.C. is so he could fix it!

But he can't go straight

He goes both ways

He's a DC/A.C. guy!
