I'll never forget what happened,
On that September day.
Out of spite and hatred,
Our nations power gave way.
Well, at least that's what they wanted,
But to them, they did not succeed.
Although many innocent lives were lost,
Many people were freed.
Our nation came together,
Our firefighters became heroes.
In a time of sadness and confusion,
Our country's spirit arose!
Maybe we were down for awhile,
But we recovered pretty quick.
Our military went to Afghanistan,
Removing the Taliban really quick.
They tried to ruin this great nation,
Instead they brought us all together.
We will always be Americans,
We will be united forever.
I will never forget what Happened,
That September day,
We found a renewed love for one another,
And they can't take that away.
Monuments will be built,
Our freedom will last.
September 11, 2001,
This past year flew by fast!
It's almost been a year now,
since we came under attack.
Our knees aren't shaking,
Our voices refuse to crack.
We're not scared,
But united as one.
Thanks for building our spirits,
Americans are still having fun.
One thing people forget about Americans. We ARE family. We may fight and bicker among ourselves but when part of the family is attacked, we come together and kick butt. Excellent poem Teresa
Thank you. You have expressed the sentiments of the nation well. I still get cranked every time I hear references to that day. I guess in some ways we need to thank Mr. Bin Laden for galvanizing a nation into an unflinching juggernaut that won't stop until he and his ilk are brought to justice.
Hugs and Peace

I have read a lot of post septemember 11 poems. And most are filled with anger and hate. I'm guilty on that as well. but at least you wrote a nice poem with out using politics or religion in it. I have to admit when the attack happened at first. I wanted genicide. I want total anialation of that part of the world. but I realize. They, the people in the middle east like us follow men, as leaders. I wonder if those afgahn men had a african american mother instead of the doormat women of the middle east. They would be too afraid to follow bin laden? laughing, not trying to be racist but it seems to me that those men in the middle east need the fear of an angery woman instilled in them and maybe we wouldnt need to be fightning all the time. a wonderful poem.
