Picture

My life is a photo-shopped picture for MySpace
Edited to perfection, no error to the naked eye
Captioned to describe in some witty way what you're supposed to see.
Like "Day dreaming of you" for a picture with my eyes staring happily into the sky accented by the soft and wistful look of the black-and-white effect
Or "Blue without you" for a blue photo with downcast eyes, looking lost without that "one special boy"
But looking closer, it is not hard to see behind the mask, confusing those who look.
Who is she?
Or so I dream.
That someone took that second glance to try and unravel my mysteries
Dare I try to show who I am, reversing the trend of hiding who I am?
Do I reveal the truth for all who wish to look?
Am I putting myself at risk to forces that would whisk me away to untold horrors?
Yes, I am willing to take that risk for the chance that the right person might take a second glance and see who I really am.
But no one does take that second glance.
That is my life.
A wistful photo-shopped photo for MySpace.
Edited, no NC-17 for me.
Not even PG-13.
No summer nights havin' a blast, no making out in cemeteries, or being shot at in the back of a bright yellow Xtrra.
Just a simple photo-shopped MySpace photo.
Edited to perfection.

Lovely poem...........

I always suggest one be one's authentic self. Remember that old saying
'To Thine Own Self Be True' that is the best advice anyone can give another as well as themselves. If you put your real self out there people will have the chance to know the real you not try to guess who the real you is behind all those facades you put up for them to fight their way through. Why make them do so much work. Do you want to have to deal with that in another. Would you not rather have them be themselves rather than some manufactured version of themselves they created for the world out of some incomprehensible fear? If they reject the real you then move on cause they were not meant to be in your life or else they would accept the real you. Slowly but steadily you will find yourself piling up a small group of friends who met and got to know the true you. I always say to myself I'd rather be alone for the right reasons than with someone for the wrong whether that be in a marriage, a romance or a mere friendship. Operate from the angle of hope not fear.......... Even though your poem saddened me, it was well written and I enjoyed reading true feelings from deep inside your being which is obviously the real you....... Keep writing. You never know what other young people your questions and musings will touch and help them to further open themselves up to the world as well. Sincerely, Melissa Lundeen.
