My Friend

My Friend

I have never laughed like that

When making love,

I guess I never knew you could

Or I never knew how,

But it felt so good.

It feels so fine

Just to hold your hand,

To relax with you

And know you understand.

As a wounded bird you see me

Fragile and broken;

A beautiful analogy,

Cupped gently in your perfect hands

Until you set me free.

Our destiny not forever

But left to the powers that be;

You are there to help me find my wings,

You seem so sure

Of what my future now brings.

So softly spoken,

Gentle and true,

You have become such a friend

In the way you think things through.

You are considerate,

Compassionate and kind;

My many faults

You don't seem to mind.

I do thank God for the day we met

And I hold you in my prayers,

Our friendship is a lasting one

With no need for graces or airs.

Thank you my friend

For the person you are,

In your own way

A bright shining star.

Thank you for teaching me

That I can truly soar,

Without your strength

My attempt may have been flawed.

Our times together to me

Mean so very much,

Etched deep in my memory

I just know

We will never really lose touch.
