In spite of all the torment
And all the cares and strain,
Life's just one long highway
That passes by with pain.
Grief and sadness play their parts
with all their little hurts,
And misery's just like company,
That always comes in spurts.
Life just ambles on...
It's blind to people, young or old,
And knows not fame or glory,
It picks you up and puts you down
Like a never-endin' story.
You wander down it's highway
Avoidin' every rut.
Misfortune hits you once or twice
And leaves you bruised and cut.
Life just ambles on, brother...
It doesn't care just where it goes,
It knows no-body's name
It deals you from the bottom
And you know you've lost the game.
You find yourself a pretty girl
And take her for your wife
And then before you know she's gone
To live some other life.
Yeah, man, life just ambles on...
Life smiles at you quite tender,
At times it can be sweet,
But it always seems to end up
In another big defeat.
Like a river goin' no-where,
Or a freight train whizzin' by
Or in the blue a fleecy cloud
That's floatin' up so high.
Life just keeps amblin' by...
Just what's it have to offer?
A love, a laugh or two?
Before you're drowned in sorrow
To start again...anew?
Ain't no-one's life much different
Not his... not hers... not mine,
It just keeps amblin' 'til the end
In rain... in snow... in shine.
How life keeps amblin' by...
Life's a kinda purgatory,
And Judgement musta passed,
So please dear God, have mercy
And let mine go by fast.
Let it always hurry on
Like wind upon my sails
And let the next stop Heaven be
From a train on golden rails.
For life just ambles on...
I've had many days that made me wish that I could skip them altogether, but looking back I value the lesson learned if nothing else. I hope you own life has leveled into joyous circumstances. I know how you felt when you wrote this. You have only to read my own poetry to see for yourself. This particular piece was very nicely done. Thanks,
Jessica
