Summer

There were days when the sky would turn a darker shade

And you would wait and clutch your heart

Because you wanted the tears to come but they would not

And we were so certain that the sun would lie buried

Beneath the storm cloud forever amen

And the days would take so long to end because

There was nothing to do and even less to say

And it wasn't boredom because you just didn’t care

Anymore

There were no friends and little comfort besides

The ticking of the clock and the glare of a screen

And you were so certain that it would remain the same

For a lifetime because happiness lies in the strangest

Of places and all that remains is what hasn’t been

And we cannot know for sure what we haven’t seen

So perhaps the sun will come

and maybe it will be lost forever

But all the can be done

is the waiting to see it again

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is about a seemingly endless summer outside and a seemingly endless frozen winter inside her and I.  There are times when it seems happiness has disappeared for good, but there is no way to be certain for nobody can see what the future has in store.

That was absolutely beautiful. You have a great way of words and analogies that are so relateable
